is there anything I can do to help stop sewer blockages?
Yes. You can stop your sewer blocking up by binning, rather than flushing items down the toilet or sink. Items to bin include cooking fat, nappies, sanitary products etc. Inappropriate disposal of these items regularly causes sewers to become blocked quite easily. For more information visit bag it and bin it.
Is it my responsibility to check for leaks?
Yes it is. We recommend that, if you have a meter, you take regular readings to check for any leakage. Please call and request our Repairing leaks booklet on 0800 783 4444 or visit the library.

who is responsible for the water pipes?
Unlike gas and electricity, Severn Trent Water Ltd, are not responsible for the service pipe that brings your water from the property boundary up to and into the house/building. All pipes, fitments and sanitaryware inside a building of any type are the responsibility of the owner and is referred to as private plumbing.
In most cases there is a stop tap at or near to the property boundary. This is owned and maintained by Severn Trent Water Ltd.
What if the pipe bursts on the section that the householder is responsible for?
Whilst we do not have responsibility for the customer supply pipe we have, since 1997, operated a free repair scheme to help customers. This is not an immediate or emergency service and there are exceptions and limitations upon the scheme. Contact us on 0800 783 4444 for more information or visit the library to view our booklet 'repairing leaks to your service pipe'.
