Alcester roads now fully open!
Severn Trent has been able to fully re-open all the roads in Alcester, giving full access to the busy market town.
Severn Trent had announced last week that roads would remain closed or partially blocked until this Friday (24th) but were able to open them today (Wednesday 22nd).
Work began in September on the £2.7 million investment project to upgrade the sewerage system in Alcester. There were road closures in the town and the company, along with contractors Morgan Sindall, worked hard with the people of Alcester to make it as easy as possible.
Sewer improvements in the town are ongoing and are planned to be completed by the end of March. Construction of the necessary storm water storage tank, which is being built on land adjacent to the Company’s existing sewage pumping station, is progressing well.
Restrictions on Stratford Road were temporarily removed during the Christmas period and Severn Trent worked with the gas company and BT to ensure that the period required for the road closure was kept to a minimum. Severn Trent also sponsored the annual St Nicholas Night festival in December to thank the town for their part in making the work go smoothly.
Simon Gosling, project manager for Severn Trent, said: “The work is being carried out in order to ensure that our sewers are better able to cope with heavy rainfall and will result in a reduced risk of flooding.
“Alcester is a busy market town and we did all we could to keep disruption to a minimum. The residents in Alcester appreciated that the work needed to be done and have been very accommodating.”
