How much you can apply for

There are three sizes of grant that you can apply for:

  • £2,000 to £10,000 – up to 12 months for project completion
  • £10,001 to £75,000 - up to 24 months for project completion
  • £75,001 to £200,000 - up to 24 months for project completion

To apply for more than £10,000 you must be a registered charity or a business registered with Companies House, a local authority or parish council.

To apply for more than £75,000, your project must have a considerable link all three of our wellbeing themes: People, Place and Environment.

Including Value-added Tax in your budget and application

You may need to pay VAT on purchases made as part of your project and we can pay for this within our grant.

Make sure you check whether VAT needs to be included when you develop your budget. The amount of funding you request should only include VAT where you don’t intend to, or can’t, recover the VAT at a later date. If you later find that VAT claimed under the grant becomes recoverable, you must repay this amount to us.

Match funding

We would love to maximise our impact for every project we support. For this reason we encourage all applications to provide match funding and it’s a requirement for applications of £10,001 or over.

Applications between £2,000 and £10,000

If you are applying for £10,000 or less, match funding is not mandatory.

However, if you secure match funding it is likely to help your application be successful, so we would encourage you to do so where possible.

Match funding for this funding pot does not have to be in the form of cash. In-kind contributions for services or volunteering can also add a great deal of value to lots of projects.

Applications over £10,000

If you are applying for more than £10,000 funding, it’s essential that you are able to contribute at least 10% financial match funding from your reserves or another funder(s).

This must be secured before your application can progress to the next stage. In-kind contributions and volunteering cannot be used as financial match funding, sorry!

How grants are paid

Grants are paid in instalments by BACS transfer.

The first payment will be made following acceptance of the grant and receipt of any required documents, as detailed in your offer letter, and will be made within a month of the project start date.

At this stage, you will agree a payment structure with us that suits the project’s needs.

Our typical structure is:

  • £2,000 to 10,000 –one payment of 100% (this may depend on panel decision)
  • £10,000 to 75,000 –two payments with a 10% retention for End of Grant Monitoring
  • £75,000 to £200,000 –on case by case basis, aligned to project-specific milestones

Any additional payments will be made once we receive a satisfactory interim report and/or are shown satisfactory overall progress against your key milestones and objectives.

Any amount retained will then be released once we receive your final completion report.
