New sewers for Leamington Spa
Severn Trent Water is investing £7.8m to renew a major part of the sewerage system in Leamington Spa. Work began on Monday 18 October 2010 to provide a new larger sewer in Victoria Park and renew more than two kilometres of sewers across the town.
Many of the Victorian sewers in the town are starting to struggle with demands being placed on them. These will be renewed to provide greater capacity, help alleviate the risk of sewer flooding for more than 50 properties within the town and improve the water quality in the River Leam.
The work will take just under two years to complete as it is one of the most extensive and complex sewerage flooding projects to be undertaken by Severn Trent and contractor NMCNomenca.
The first phase of work in Victoria Park was undertaken during the winter months to minimise the overall impact on the local community and its use of the park as an amenity.
The work will be split into eight phases, with the final section concluding in spring 2012.
Before each phase of work begins, details will be sent to the homes and businesses that are affected.
